I can supply stand alone traditional back of the book index or an embedded index (formats include Rich Text rtf, MS Word, Adobe InDesign, XML, idml.) Fees are agreed at the start so you know what you will pay - as long as timings are agreed and there are no changes to text or pages after I have started work. My quote will depend on the complexity of the text, inclusion of illustrations and/or tables, whether separate indexes are required (or one combined index) and the time available (mine and yours).
You will want a quality index, you will possibly want it soon and you will probably want it cheap. There will inevitably be a trade off between these requirements but I have high standards and will always provide an index I would be proud to see in print. I will not take on work unless I am confident of being able to deliver on time but they may be some flexibility on price depending on my other commitments. I am happy to consider both long and short term projects and may be able to take on urgent work at short notice. I am available all year.
The Society of Indexers has published two useful guides:
